What Claire Ate: May 21st, 2015

I woke up with a craving for a sandwich and a bucket of Diet Coke, so I convinced Sean to ride our bikes down to Laurelhurst Market.

Yes. Diet Coke is my favorite.

#3, tbh.

#3, tbh.

We biked back, I wrote some things, this went up.

Then I went to get more Diet Coke.

Classic pairing.

Classic pairing.

I had two Diet Coke tall boys, then I cleaned the house for the rest of the afternoon/early evening.

Once the house was clean, I went to work eating a bunch of leftovers that weren’t long for this world.

Dessert was pound cake because the pound cake is never-ending.

Sean came back from Whole Foods with a bunch of vegetables and some delicious sharp cheddar.

Happy Tasty Weekend Link Roundup

It’s The Tasty Weekend Roundup! Happy May!

Well. This year is certainly flying by. I plan to spend this first May weekend checking out Montavilla’s First Friday, stuffing my face at Nomad, and getting caught up on What Claire Ate. Other than that, I hope to chill.

I want to reach Kira levels of chill.

So chill.

Kira is so chill.

If you need something to read while chilling, maybe check out some of the below links. Or don’t whatever. I’m too chill to care.

This pistachio cake looks pretty sexy.

Fox makes bacon sandwich, wins internet.

Eater’s Young Guns┬ásemifinalists have been announced. (I’m going to check out #17 on Saturday.)

Why not make a Ginger Egg Cream?

This is pretty much what my talk show would look like.

Hong Kong’s hottest club is 7-11. (Stefon? Is that you?)

Sometimes animals go extinct because people don’t want to eat them.

Where do you keep your butter?

Even I wouldn’t drink this martini.

Yessss lengua tacos!

Breakfast was a…TOMATO SANDWICH!

The last tomato :(

Lunch was a pretty epic salad with carrots and lentils and olives and all kinds of things.

And parm.

And parm.

I’m assuming I wrote some words about food. Then I went on a run (5K!)

After that, I made myself a cocktail with vodka, La Croix, mandarin oranges, and limes.

Also bitters!

Evening snacks included pretzel crisps with cheddar.

For supper, I had purple sticky rice with parm and green onion.

If the day had ended here, it would have been completely reasonable.

But it did not.

After a little unpacking and decorating, I decided to walk down to Vintage Cocktail lounge for a lonely martini.

I spilled 1/3 of the first one.

So I ordered another one.

This was the first one. The second had a twist and was made with a gin made from grapes.

The bartender may or may not have given me a tiny bit of Pappy 23 year.

We are now bff (in my mind).

My last cocktail was something called a “whisper” and was super effing delicious.

Went down like lemonade.

Went down like lemonade.

Then I bid my new bff farewell and started walking back home. On my route, I met a lone biker who ended up being my husband.

Once home, I made an onion and cheddar sandwich bc (as mentioned earlier) we were out of tomatoes and I just wanted a sandwich.

What pretty plating.

Then I made little ice cream sandwiches out of Oreos.

4? I think?

Then we watched Friends and went to bed.

What Claire Ate: April 9th, 2015

April 9th was a good day. For starters, it was Belle & Sebastian Day, which is basically like Christmas at the Lower house, only with more Scottish people.

Angie didn't GAF but the humans were excited.

The first thing I ate was a bagel sandwich.

Shortly after I had consumed my brunch, we headed downtown suuuuuper early to scope out the line (or lack there of) and grab some drinks beforehand.

No one was waiting yet but this poster was hanging out.

We went to Bailey’s to grab a beer.

Tart.

Tart.

It was pretty good, but made me congested almost immediately, forcing me to finally admit to myself that I’m probably allergic to beer. This was a pretty tragic realization, so I soothed my soul with a margarita (which did not make me congested).

Sean had a beer though, because they don’t affect his ability to breathe.

We also had some flautas.

Then a very nice woman asked me if I was me and told me she liked my writing. This was the first time I’d ever been “recognized” and it was a delightful experience and I hope she enjoyed talking to me as much as I enjoyed talking to her.

After we finished our drinks and flautas, we checked the line again to see if anyone had started lining up. They had not, so we went to find another drink.

A little Van Winkle bourbon.

After that, we went back to the Roseland and took our place in the very short line. It’s a good thing we got there when we did though, because it didn’t stay short for long. We weren’t first in, but we got a really great spot anyway and I ended up dancing on stage during “Boy with the Arab Strap” and “Legal Man.”

That's me on the right.

That’s me on the right.

My friend assured me that I didn’t look completely ridiculous, only elated in a slightly creepy way.

After the show, we engaged in some light stalking, hanging out behind the venue until Stuart Murdoch came out to sign things.

The face of no chill.

I barely kept it together, but he was very nice and talked to us for quite a well.

After all of that excitement, there was nothing left to do but have another drink. I don’t remember where we went, but they made an excellent martini.

And that was the end of a very nice day.

I had a lot of coffee but photographed none of it. You know what coffee looks like by now so I’m not super worried.

I had half a bagel with cream cheese.

I didn’t eat anything else until we met my uncle for supper at Tasty n Alder. Then we ate all of the things.

After supper, we went to Kachka so my uncle and his buddy could try the horseradish vodka. We ordered a flight (horseradish, rosemary, caraway) and some pickle juice. I didn’t get a pic of all that , but I did get this pic of a sign in the bathroom. I hope that makes it up to you.

IMG_3045

My uncle had to get back to his hotel (he had a very early flight) so we dropped him back at his car and made our way home. We stopped off at ABV to grab a beer, and Sean ordered a pizza because he’s just constantly hungry from running in the mountains or something.
